Dr Shanmugam completed his MBBS from Tirunelveli medical college with a gold medal in skin and venereology(TTK) and silver in general surgery. He did his postgraduation in neurosurgery in VHS (voluntary health services) hospital. He is Fellow at CVJ, KEM hospital Mumbai and has a Fellowship in skull base (Nepal ). He is also a certified pain physician with a fellowship from DPMC. He specialises in spine surgeries and trauma surgeries with interventional pain management
