Planning a Pregnancy? Here’s All You Need to Know Before,
During, & After

Though pregnancy is a natural process, it can be daunting because a total lifestyle change may be required for the woman. To a large extent, the child’s health and growth depends on maternal health. If you are planning a pregnancy it is better to be aware of the changes you must bring about in your lifestyle. In this article, we have tried to cover a few of the essential changes you should incorporate once you decide to embrace motherhood.

Lifestyle Changes You Need to Do Before and During Pregnancy

Once you plan to become a mother the first and foremost thing you should do is to assess your dietary, physical, and mental health. Then make a plan of the new lifestyle changes you need and stick to it. Here’s how you can ensure you are making the right choices.

  • If you are still planning to get pregnant it is better to consult a gynaecologist or an obstetrician. The doctor may prescribe you some antioxidants or folic acid tablets to be taken at this stage.
  • Quit toxic substances right away like alcohol and smoking. Limiting the intake of tea and coffee, fast foods, and outside food where possible might be beneficial.
  • Try to maintain an optimum weight as this will help you conceive easily and won’t trouble you in the later months with BP or diabetes.
  • Discuss with your doctor and go for a genetic disorders test. Knowing your family history will help you manage any factors beforehand if required.
  • Take special care of your emotional and mental health as this will have a huge impact on your conception as well as on your child’s overall well-being once you conceive.
  • Go for an overall body check-up to check all the parameters like haemoglobin levels, calcium, BP, and others to take medical help in case required.
  • Take necessary vaccines as prescribed.
  • Last but not least take an adequate nutrition-rich food that will provide you and your child the required nutrients to fight diseases and grow stronger.
Early Care and When Should It Start?

Taking care of a newborn can be very challenging and demanding. While your body is still recuperating with the aftereffects of childbirth you will be required to prepare for the role of a caregiver. A few points to keep in mind:

  • Feed your baby frequently whether you are breastfeeding or providing the baby with formula milk. Formula milk is only advised in the case of an inability to breastfeed. Keep having conversations with your doctor about what’s best for your baby and you.
  • Try sleeping when the baby is sleeping so that you can give your care while the baby is awake.
  • Bathe your baby with uttermost care and try involving your family in his or her upbringing.
  • Finally seek help and support as it is rightly said that it takes a village to raise a child.
In a Nutshell

Always remember that there is no perfect or single way of raising a kid and or becoming a mother. It is a learning process where you commit mistakes and evolve gradually with time and experience. Meanwhile make regular visits with your doctor and paediatrician and do everything that you are advised to do. Hope you enjoy this beautiful journey.
